University of Tennessee Zero Engery House: Proposal for the 2011 Solar Decathlon

The Solar Decathlon is a competition held on the Mall in Washington, D.C. to give awareness to the use and benefits of solar energy and sustain-able architecture. This 720 sq. ft. house is a proposal for the 2011 Solar Decathlon.

The purpose of this design is to create a dwell- ing that is in a sense 100 percent self-sufficient. The pro-ject started off as a solo design and mid semester it was chosen to con-tinue on in the group project with architects and interior designers.

The client for this design is a digital artist. When thinking about the client and the notions of art, my concept arose. Artists take raw materials and transform them into works of art by way of adding or removing elements. My design concept in turn is Additive and Subtractive Space, this re- lates to the building form, lighting plan, and furni- ture elements.
