Wabi-Sabi: Embracing the beauty of imperfection

What does it mean for Architecture in the
age of A.I.? Architecture, throughout
history, has always shown a reflfl ection of
the times. Mirroring societal advancements,
technological progress, and cultural
shifts. Everday we are edging closer to
a new era dominated by AI and robotics,
which also means that architecture will go
through a transformative evolution as well.
Our precedents were looking at
traditional dry fifi t joinery and how this will
serve as inspiration for contemporary dry
fifi t joints made with the use of robotics. A
Kuka robotic arm attached with a drill bit
was used to drill notches into pieces of
lumber. This allowed us to create
unconvetional notches and give us more
freedom in our design and to speed up the
process of milling.
