Greenwich Village, a historic district and one of the first established places in NYC, is steeped in history. Designated in 1969, this area was deemed preservation worthy by the LPC due to its rich artistic life, housing creative icons such as Edgar Allen Poe, Henry Jarvis Raymond, and Mark Twain. The district's architecture quality and the overall feeling of history permeating the streets make it a place of great historical significance.
What makes Greenwich so unique is its non-uniform building styles. This district has various architectural styles, ranging from many periods. It is the only surviving section of Manhattan where major architectural styles of the early city are displayed side by side.
For my composition, I focused on seven architectural types found within the district: Federal, Greek Revival, Italianate, French 2nd Empire, Neo-Grec, Queen Anne, and Pre-war.
