ResourceXchange - Erosion as an Urban Condition

Erosion, water, wind, and time are intrinsically linked. They rely on one another to take their effect. Together they carve and mold on a monumental scale. The idea that this condition could be isolated and integrated into a designed proposal begins with a brief context of the site. Situated on an area of land that has passed through the hands of many generations before us, this site is regarded as the oldest human-active area in the United States.  The proposed structure will serve as a water conservation research center and will house a wide range of connecting programmatic elements. With the larger gallery and event spaces that showcase the history of the site and its people, to the innovative water research facilities this building will exemplify a sense of commemoration to the past and progression towards the future. The conceptual rhetoric of the project serves as a commentary between the natural erosion of a landscape over time and the intervention of urban conditions. The resulting mass compositionally showcases the beauty of simulated nature. In the end, RxE will become a symbolic link between the community’s heritage and its aspirations for a sustainable future. It will embody a commitment to responsible resource management, echoing the landscape’s natural resilience while emphasizing the significance of human responsibility in shaping the environment and how our intervention makes an impact.
