This project is a study of controlling otherwise undisciplined light. The structure is realized within a 6x6 grid as three zones that provide specific lighting qualities based on varying light experiences. The three zones contain a large central space with a roof opening, each of the same dimension. These openings are altered to create instances of controlled and uncontrolled light. The two outermost zones produce conditions of highly controlled light, whereas the middle zone emphasizes the ever changing manner of natural light. At night, these zones become the opposite of their day condition. In the controlled spaces, a zone that highlights the floor during the day, highlights the walls at night and vice versa. The uncontrolled zone similarly becomes the opposite of its daylighting experience by introducing an upward natural light source -- fire. Therefore, the outer zones become instances of perfection through control, contrasted by the imperfection of natural light in the middle zone.
