INHABITING THE TERRITORY

The project was part of an idea workbook of Mexico's biggest credit housing institution (INFONAVIT)

The project arises from the need to propose a model that controls the growth that will be generated from the arrival of large industries in the area. As the first detonator, comes the largest production plant of Grupo Modelo (beverage industry giant) in the Apan region, Hidalgo. Our social housing model takes up the idea of establishing a direct relationship with the rural territory of the area, promoting the work and cultivation of land that is in contact with social housing.

With a housing typology that reinterprets the work of Hassan Fathy in New Gourna Village (1948), we seek to strengthen the contextual relationship with the territory while providing decent housing for the population. The typology of rural housing that we propose, allows the possibility of gradually expanding, adapting to the changing needs of its inhabitants. The design of the house also incorporates a workshop space attached to the house that allow the inhabitants to appropriate it depending on their economic activities or hobbies. In addition, the houses incorporate an outside area of fields, which allow life with livestock animals or smaller-scale crops.

In this way, the social housing model is reinterpreted in a rural context attached to an urban context through a line that seeks to gradually control the growth and development of Apan and its surroundings.
