Chahar Right Middle Banner, a city in Inner Mongolia with clear land and weather situation and in developing process with intention to be a modern city for next, so the task given about this exhibition center is not just only for providing public function, but also needs to present kind of image for city expected by local government.
The site which is in periphery of city at north-west between city hall and school faces open and flat field at north-west side with problem of sandstorm especially in winter.
To deal with environmental situation and respond to purpose given, simply we just have a square in 90m by 90m with courtyard inside at the first step and raise 2 corners at north-east and south-west side next.
What we intent to create is a geometry form which is simple and pure like sculpture defined as image of contemporary city in general, and with open but protected courtyard from sandstorm in the middle which is not just to connect city hall and school allowing flow of people, but expected mostly is to create pubic activity by providing more protected square in the open area!
Following the form of building, the space and circulation system inside is simple. 4 districts are basically arranged linearly, so people will move around courtyard following exhibitions and always with sense about things happening inside and outside. Moreover entrances / exits are set at 2 corners touching ground allowing visitors in or out easily.
It’s always better to have simple but precise and effective idea as solution for complicated issue, and to respond to real situation is a good way for connecting to “local ” we think. In this project, we want the image it can show is local but contemporary and we do expect it can have certain contribution for development of city and life of citizen!
