Thesis revisited In LEGO form

Revisiting this architecture model in LEGO form after 15 years. This house was one of the residential units designed as part of an entire mixed-use city block proto-type development. The design took into account principles related to the following areas of design:

  1. The local vernacular architecture: traditional and modern.
  2. Sustainable design principals finishes and energy efficiency.
  3. Lessons learned from Hurricane Katrina as it relates to site design, building planning and appropriate materials.
  4. A study of history, development, use, and function of a porch. Front, rear, and wrap-around especially how this plays into the definition of public and semi-private space.
  5. A mix of retail, residential, assisted living, ecclesiastical, social space, educational, and community gathering.

The LEGO model was a study in scale and texture with sideways building techniques to achieve the door and window frame alignments.
