Commissioned by the municipality of Rotterdam was designed by the design MoederscheimMoonen Architects for a club assembly building on Varkenoord South Rotterdam. The design was runner-up in the competition organized by the municipality of Rotterdam and distinguishes itself by its expressive architecture and sustainability concept based on a full-electric principle. On the ground floor are mainly the changing facilities located and is mostly covered with talus. This allows for increased insulation and a natural connection to the first floor The top floor is mostly devoted to perception and transparency and serves as a flexible dividable multipurpose room for several associations that are together under one roof. A roof that provides shelter but also conveys the expressiveness and energy of a sports environment. One of the focal points of our concept is to combine the great need for hot water with the generation of green power. Through an electrical flow-through device the hot water is heated electrically in a very energy efficient way by the connection to local PV panels. Through this application, the building does not need a gas connection; it is full-electric and so can anticipate future developments in green energy. With the design, natural material choices, and the proposed process is a clubhouse with BREEAM Excellent certificate available.
