Cultural Necropolis - Re-integrating Cemeteries as Social Nodes

Spanish Harlem also known as El Barrio and East Harlem, is sandwiched in the north-eastern corner of Manhattan and has historically been home to several immigrant communities. With a population of nearly 120,000, it is one of the largest predominantly Latino communities in the city. But it is currently suffering the effects of gentrification and slowly losing its culture and identity.

To saturate the Hispanic community i approached the solution by re-integrating a series of cemeteries / cultural centers in abandoned subways to provide a sacred space or vault to retain the culture of such a historic neighborhood. Even though the majority of residents are being pushed out the history will remain and hopefully current generation will gather to reflect and share memories.
