The Spieker Aquatic Center on the UCLA campus is intended to support the university’s intercollegiate aquatic athletics. The $10M project includes a 52M competition swimming pool, a 10M dive tower, seating for 2,500 spectators, intercollegiate and visiting team lockers, lounge and coaches facility, ticketing and vending, multi-purpose classroom and training center and support spaces.
The Spieker Aquatic Center integrates itself into the existing aesthetics and organization of the campus as a source of connection to the existing facilities. The aquatic center becomes a landmark point with the stretching wooden screens and concrete panels that clad the dive tower. Materials used throughout the site are glazed concrete block, a fabric roof, glass, steel trusses, concrete, and ipe wood siding.
