Following the Comprehensive Spending Review in the UK in October 2010, there have been large scale public sector cuts, two such public services to be cut are education, having the 'Building Schools for the Future' scheme scrapped, and social housing, having a 60% budget cut. Though these services are still in huge demand.
It is the architects role, not only as building designer, but as social entrepreneur and problem solver to come up with a solution.
For my final university project I took into consideration the need for public sector cuts and the ideals of the UK coalition governments flag ship policy 'the big society' and that we are all in this together. I created a hypothetical not for profit organisation, 'Inspire Cowley', to manage the co-location of two key public sectors, a free school and a homeless assistance centre.
