China’s urbanization has transformed the lives of 500 million rural peasents over the past 30 years.
In the process of expropriating land for urban development, farmers have been uprooted from their homes and farmland through compulsory relocation to urban communities, disconnecting them from the traditional agricultural-centered way of life. As part of the Shijiazhuang Waterfront Master Plan, this study proposes a comprehensive planning framework designing for the social, economic, and spatial needs of 22,000 relocated farmers.
