A graduate of Yale and Harvard University Graduate School of Design, I returned to Alabama to begin my professional career.  Having worked a year with Julian Jenkins between college graduation and beginning my master's studies, I was pleased to receive a position with the firm upon completion of my master's degree studies.  I worked with Jenkins for 4 years, eventually becoming a partner in the firm of Jenkins, Williamson, and Munroe.  When proration hit the state budget and school construction was put on hold, we made the decision to dissolve the firm and I elected to open my own shop in Fort Payne, Alabama.

For the next twenty-two years, I operated Alan L. Williamson, Architect & Associates.  We were a general practice firm that employed from 1 to six employees and had annual billings between $145,000 and $350,000.  We designed a wide array of building types including civic, educational, industrial, commercial, and residential projects. In October of 2013, I joined Bounds Architecture to help establish a new Atlanta branch office.  From October to April, I acted as branch manager and was responsible for marketing and sales for the Atlanta Branch.  Unable to crack the Atlanta market and not generating the anticipated revenue needed to sustain the branch office, I was dismissed from Bounds Architecture in mid-April.

I am currently seeking a more traditional design/project management role in an established firm.  My preference is to be located in the southeastern U.S. but I am not limited to this location.  Salary is negotiable.

My hobbies include golf, hunting, fishing, gardening, and photography.

I have served as an officer in the Northeast Alabama Chapter of the American Institute of Architects on numerous occasions and I am a past President of the Alabama Council of American Institute of Architecture.
