At the University of Kansas, I have graduated with a B.F.A. in Environmental Design/Interior Design and will finish my M.A. in Architectural Management in May. The most important part of my education has come outside the classroom. I entered into design through the sports industry; when I gained a position with the University of Kansas Men’s Basketball team. Working in athletics for over 3 years helped gain experience with back-of-house spaces in Arenas and firsthand knowledge of what is required during the design process. I was given the opportunity to use my leadership and management skills to help coordinate travel along with communicating with fellow Big XII schools throughout the season. I hope that what I have learned will help me evolve into the design world.
I currently work with Design & Construction Management at the University of Kansas as a student architectural intern. This has given me a diverse understanding of different buildings on campus and work that occurs behind them. This has given me the capacity to communicate with people who lack the knowledge of the design world. By being a part of some ADA projects throughout campus that have challenged me to have a better understanding of the knowledge of ADA codes, I have been able to increase my knowledge with firsthand experience.
