Architecture has always been an important part of every human’s life, every historic event and every culture. The emotional power of architecture has always been attractive for me. Moreover, being able to design a building for it to be a place of activity for others made me even more passionate about this field.
Growing up, I was always good at painting and drawing and attended various art classes with great joy. In addition to art, I also enjoyed mathematics and physics and was excellent in understanding the theories and solving problems. Since architecture is a combination of art and engineering, my choice of architecture as my profession was very natural.
After finishing high school, I was accepted to Yerevan State University of Architecture and Construction. After six years, I was able to get my Master’s degree in Architecture in 2009, with the area of narrow specialization in Design of Architectural Environment. During these six years I met many outstanding architects who had worked in Yerevan, Armenia. These were the people who had designed and built their masterpieces in Armenia, and I got inspiration from their work.
In summer 2007, I worked as an intern in one of my professors’ office. This was my first experience working as an architect out of the limits of a classroom; therefore, I had a chance to closely feel the charm of architecture. I put all the knowledge that I had obtained to practice on my project, which was a building near one of the monuments in Yerevan. I learned the importance of designing buildings that are in harmony with their environment.
In 2009, I participated in an international seminar “The Issues of Maintenance of Historical and Cultural Monuments in Context of Integration of Modern Urban Infrastructure” organized by the Armenian National Commission for UNESCO, where my project was displayed. This was also my senior year in college. I did my diploma project - “Multifunctional Sport Complex whit Ice Rink” in Tasghkador, Armenia, which was accepted by our committee, and I graduated from university with honors.
After graduating from university I started working as an Architect in “A3 Architects” LLC studio. We did many projects, including the new session hall of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia and the renovation projects of hospitals in Armenia, which were funded by World Bank. Our office also participated in two international competitions, the Russian dramatic theater in Astana and the Fashion museum in Tokyo. This was my first time being involved with the architect community on an international level which also helped me in the expansion of my perspective.
I am also an active member of The Union of Architects of Armenia. I have participated in many conferences dedicated to developments in Yerevan city. Moreover, I have expanded my knowledge by attending meetings held at the Union of Architect where different ongoing projects were presented.
In 2011, I worked at Ithaka architectural studio, which was a firm involved with projects from Russia. In addition, I have over one year experience in working at ZAARCH LLC Architectural firm. The head architect of this firm was my 5th year Architectural projects professor. The project that I worked on was a studying and conference center in Dilijan City. I worked on the planning, interior design, rendering and construction supervising. The feeling that your drawings are being built in reality is refreshing and seeing my ideas materialized has grown my passion for architecture over time.
