SERVICE LEARNING PROJECT AWARD, 1st Place
Students in the School of Architecture spent their spring break volunteering in Chicago, assisting at three different sites in the city.
The students began the week with a community service project in collaboration with the University of Illinois – Chicago School of Urban Planning. The project focused on developing design ideas and marketing for the Maxwell Street Market project. The students also studied ideas that will move the market from the supervision of the city of Chicago to an independent non-profit.
The second project allowed interaction with students from the ACE Technical Charter High School. The PVAMU group reviewed the design work of students and offered constructive ways to improve their abilities. The teaching time also turned into a question and answer session on the PVAMU Architecture program, with students receiving information about the program and enrollment requirements.
