1. University topper in Seminar on “BARAPULLAH – DRAIN OR RESERVOIR” (B. Arch Year IV, 2011) ABSTRACT
• The Barapullah drain is one of the most important Nullah systems of theYamuna basin. Originally meant to carry storm water it has nowdeteriorated and carries sewage and sullage. Thus not only has the land
lost its qualitative value but it has also become a vicious cycle of furtherdegradation with squatter settlements emerging along the drains. Thisinitial spine forms the first scenario of the study, which looks at this
spine and its surroundings from the ground level.
• The increase in urban pressure has led to congestion on major roadwaysof the city. In the light of the Commonwealth Games a solution to thistraffic problem was proposed as this 4km long elevated roadway to provide easy commute between central, east and south Delhi. A travelthat earlier took 45 minutes could now happen in less than 15 minutes.
• Interestingly, the elevated roadway runs right along and above the drainmaking it a combination of two spinal systems working together andhence, impacting the same context but in different ways.
