Currently I am the BIM Manager for KPS Group in Birmingham and the satellite offices in Huntsville and Atlanta. I oversee the firm-wide BIM initiative from design and construction documentation through construction administration, which includes BIM Pre-Project meetings, training and model review of all projects utilizing BIM technology. I have collaborated with Structural and MEP both in and out-of-house to produce a BIM federated model, the largest ‘federated project’ being ‘Renovations and Addition to the Birmingham Shuttlesworth International Airport’. I have taught and implemented Revit for various associates and have ten years plus of hands-on Revit experience. I hold the certification 'Autodesk Revit Architecture 2012 Certified Professional’.
A technical Architect with over thirty years of diverse experience and practice in both traditional architectural offices and design/build construction companies utilizing both AutoCAD and Revit I have created architectural, structural and mechanical documents (electrical including circuiting and panel schedules, plumbing layouts and risers, gas layouts and risers, and small split system and roof mounted A/C systems), consulted with local building and fire department code officials, and managed and coordinated consultants including civil and fire when contracted. I have worked preparing contracts, schedules, budgets, and managed and assisted in the preparation of contract documents from schematic design thru construction administration.
In addition to the responsibilities above I support our project teams by resolving BIM related project problems, work with IT and have created BIM support documents for the office such as:
• Starting a Revit Project
• BIM Kick-off Meeting
• Revit Collaboration with Consultants
• Revit Office Standards and Naming Conventions
• Project Strategy for BIM Management
I create Revit templates with schedules and families that have embedded specification parameters and code related information and formula that provide calculation including but not limited to:
• verify ADA required door clearances and report non-compliant doors
• compute the occupancy calculation for door capacity and report in schedules and tags
• report Occupancy Type and Occupants per area on schedules
• calculate room capacity and required number of exits
• calculate plumbing fixtures required per Occupancy Type
• View Schedule that provides data of all views in the project, if views are placed on sheets via conditional formatting, view names, scale of views, and detail level
Via the program coding for the Revit API, I created a new Office Apps Tab on the Revit Ribbon to provide access to approved time saving routines, open the office document containing ‘Office Revit Naming Conventions’, and open the office calendar for our Training Schedule. To provide a monitoring tool for project managers I programmed and installed the Autodesk 'Model Standards Review Application' to comply with our Standards.
To sum up I provide BIM assistance to all phases of the building process, provide current technical tips for Revit proficiency and productivity. I create and add Revit applications to the software, create content and templates, and stay current with Autodesk software that applies to BIM applications. I work in both AutoCAD and Revit applications to produce schematic design thru construction documentation and have worked in both Design/Build and Traditional Architectural offices. Project types include master planning, new construction, tenant improvements / renovations, and shell building tenant build-outs.
I will respond promptly with any additional information or materials you may desire and welcome the opportunity to further discuss my qualifications. Please contact me at 954-461-6307 or via e-mail at pwmsmith@comcast.net.
