I am a Sr Architectural Designer with extensive design & planning experience of Hospitality, Retail Centers & Entertainment projects. My focus is concept development & visualization to promote excellence in client engagement, impactful & memorable guest experiences & profitable operations. I believe many of the problems we encounter in the built environment have a common origin that may be traced back to conceptual deficiencies, forced implementation of poorly preconceived ideas, and just plain misinformation and misunderstanding of fundamental requirements.
I endeavor to overcome such difficulties by keeping an open mind, an inclination to listen and learn, and a rigorous work ethic.
Bilingual: English-Spanish. Naturalized US citizen since 1990. I have lived and studied in Spain (Madrid), The Caribbean (Cuba and Dominican Republic) & Florida (Miami and Orlando). For the past 8 years, I have lived in Las Vegas, NV, and worked both in Las Vegas as well as Los Angeles, CA. I travel frequently and I have a KTN (Known Traveler Number).
I spend my personal time painting and selling my watercolors, exercising my sketching skills, listening to audiobooks, and catching up with technology.
Gensler, Las Vegas, NV, US, Architectural Designer
Sr Architectural Designer: My primary role was to lead the development of conceptual design by sketching & 3d modeling through an intensive collaborative design process. This collaborative process usually involved owners, principals and heads of creative departments, and could take the form of one-day charrettes involving multiple stakeholders, or smaller precision targeted groups of two or three people.
My software toolset at Gensler included SketchUp, Revit and Rhino, as well as VRay and Adobe Photoshop. In addition, often I was involved in freehand sketching to address clients concerned with CADD or Revit only type presentations. Some clients tend to favor the more traditional design and presentation methods, and I could deliver on this as well.
Marnell Architecture, Las Vegas, NV, US, Project Manager
In the summer of 2008 I was hired by Marnell Companies to join their team in Las Vegas, which prompted my relocation from Florida. At Marnell I was primarily involved in design development and presentation, with the occasional 3d modeling effort on the side. I worked on a variety of projects at various levels of involvement, some required full CAD drafting expertise from site planning to detailing, others were more conceptual, and involved design refinements, coordination with construction managers, visualization and presentation work for marketing purposes. Often I was asked to develop, illustrate and coordinate another colleague design work, to maintain a level of visual consistency of the material being produced at Marnell.
Because of my residential design background, I helped both Anthony Marnell III and Dave Howryla with the design and construction of their high-end private residences.
WATG, Orlando, FL, US, Project Designer
In the Fall of 2007 I left FKA and joined WATG. My goal at the time was to return to large scale development, something I missed since my days working in Miami. My time at WATG was short, less than a year, but I was fortunate to work on a couple of complex international projects. The Trump Cap Cana Resort in Dominican Republic, and Chemuyil Fiesta Americana in Mexico. All my work at WATG was hand sketched since that was the owner’s requirement for those jobs, and the work primarily involved design development and refinement of the work done by previous designer no longer with WATG.
Fugleberg Koch, PLLC., Orlando, FL, US, Project Manager/Designer
In the summer of 2003 I relocated from Miami to Orlando to pursue work with two design firms of great reputation in Florida, the first one was Fugleberg Koch. At FKA I was intensely involved developing concept work for Florida style resorts and mixed-use projects. My primary responsibility was design, planning and presentation. Around 2005 most of the effort shifted to cater to marketing rather than development and building. Nevertheless, I was fortunate to work closely with Robert Koch, participating in regional charrette efforts, and learning from him a bit of the fine arts of master planning and presenting to large groups.
