My name is Dustin Lawrence Bush and I am here to make a change…
"you must be the change you wish to see in the world" Mahatma Gandhi
I was raised in the suburbs of Southern California. For as long as I can remember, I always sensed that the world was a bit off or things where not fitting together properly. As a child I noticed the fragmentation of our world was heavy, in the relationships between husband and wife, white and black, rich and poor and most importantly the relationships we have with yourself. This morning I was reading an article on archdaily by Linda Bennett, the whole article was compelling, it spoke to me, specifically this quote. "I have always argued that you do not need to be serious in order to be taken seriously… Rather than superficially, the most compelling, influential and approachable stories are often conveyed through the unexpected turn of intellect, energy, humor and play."
At the age of 20, I realized that I had fell into this same fragmented world I observed as a child. I was no longer watching the fragmented world dance along. I had joined the dance and in the process lost the relationship with self. I have spent the past 6 years rebuilding my relationship with self, in order to make the change that I so deeply am compelled to influence. Lind is spot on, superficiality only aids in continuing the dance of fragments. I along with my KINK family hope to bring awareness to the fragmentation all around us.
"The awareness of the fragmented world inspired a genuine curiosity within me, leading me to seek out how things work. I spent the majority of my youth disassembling broken object and restoring them to more often than not working condition. I did not know it at the time but this was the inception of KINK."
KINK is an idea, it is something fluid. It is the idea that every problem has a solution, and every solution presents a problem… that is KINK.
By definition a KINK is a twist or bend or and unusual sexual preference. Here at kink we aim to bend and twist the current architectural, cultural, social, emotion and spiritual paradigm. In the process of bending and twisting we believe, that all those who come in contact with our work will be presented with the opportunity to, accept or reject kinker paradigms.
