James Maurer // Aspiring Architect
Architecture is about a sense of place, the meaning discovered there. In ancient times the Romans referred to this as genius loci. In Southeast Asia, san phra phum (ศาลพระภูมิ) or "house for the spirit of the land." But a more sophisticated understanding imagines that it is the meeting of all these qualities in a place, an atmosphere.
In my work, the expression and even explanation of such qualities are the underlying and ever-present provocation of making and meaning. Every project holds this new beginning of dwelling within a place.
The work enclosed here and entrusted to you is in service to that beginning.
