About

I prefer to rest my ideas between order and chaos, draw a line askew instead of straight, and inspire through new observations.

I study architecture, I've been doing this since 4 years old, but only legitimately for the past four years. It is my true passion, and I jump at any and all opportunities to strengthen it.

I'm currently the President of the AIAS Chapter at Cosumnes River College, and act as a student representative for the AIA Central Valley.

I have high hopes in myself, and know my potential to succeed.

Employment

Foundation for California Community Colleges, Rancho Cordova, CA, US, Student Assistant

I was employed through the Foundation for California Community Colleges, and reported to work at the office of the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board, a division of the California EPA. I was a part of the administrative and support staff. My duties involved data entry, filing, document preparation, answering phones, and the handling of special requests from the geologists and caseworkers within the office.

Education

Cosumnes River College, Sacramento, CA, US, Architecture

I have been the President of CRC's AIAS Chapter from August 2012 until present.

I have represented CRC in Cal Poly's annual Design Village competition during the 2011, 2012, and 2013 years. During the 2013 competition my team's structure won 2nd place for best innovation and craftsmanship.

I currently hold a Certificate of Achievement for Interior Building Architecture - "This certificate program utilizes CADD and Building Information Modeling (BIM) software to prepare students for careers in the area of Interior Building Architecture with an emphasis in Architectural Design. Students who successfully complete the suggested program will be capable of performing pre-modeling (massing), modeling, and developing drawing documents normally expected of architects, designers and drafting technicians."

After the 2013-2014 academic year is over, I'll have received my Associates in Architecture, and an additional certificate for Green Buildings: Environmental Design, Energy Management and Performance Based Construction.

Awards

Make.Move.Play. - The Make Award, 2nd Place

I represented Cosumnes River College at Design Village in San Luis Obispo. My team was approached by Sacramento’s Dreyfuss & Blackford Architects’ partner and design principal Jason Silva. He provided his time as our mentor, and also provided his firm’s warehouse for us to use as building space. The theme for Design Village 2013 was both titled and defined as “Make.Move.Play.” During my team’s design sessions, we decided on cardboard as a material – we felt that cardboard embodied the theme’s three principals of make, move, and play in their respective ways. We wanted to test the structural ability of cardboard, and to make that prospect possible, we devised a system that puzzled the cardboard together, helping to distribute weight about the whole of the design. American River Packaging of West Sacramento generously donated their resources to provide us with all the cardboard we would need. We sent them custom specifications and dimensions so they could produce a flat stock of cardboard that we would fold, glue, and cut to our design’s needs. After two weeks of the building process, over 300 separate square, cardboard extrusions were fabricated by hand; assembly of the many components came together to form a single structure. After two nights of living in our structure during the Design Village competition, my team tested and proved cardboard’s structural integrity. We intrigued countless individuals, and I was there to help them understand the goals we had for the project. Our structure received second place in the “Make” category for showcasing best innovation and craftsmanship. Our success in the competition led to interests in displaying our structure at events in Sacramento.

2013 CSI Student Design Competition, 1st Place

On March 1, 2013, Sacramento’s Construction Specification Institute (CSI) held its annual Student Design Competition, and I was one of the participating students. With their investment in Sacramento’s Downtown Plaza, JMA Ventures hosted the competition’s location and design parameters. We, the students, were charged with redesigning a major entrance to the shopping mall. Four teams were selected at random, and of the four members of my team, I was voted the leader. My team assessed the existing entrance, and labeled it dead and dark. Our final design brought life and light to the area, adding much needed activity. The judges chose my team’s design as the winner for its practicable and innovative design. The competition tested teamwork and tested our potential for fabricating a wholesome design within a fixed timetable of 8 hours.
