About

Architecture is my opportunity to explore, and hopefully make a positive imprint on the world around me.  Licensed in California, Colorado, Montana and Arizona, I've enjoyed a broad range of experiences during my 14 years of practice.  Prior to earning my M.Arch, I had a successful career in retail and management.  I am proud to have joined the architectural community in Los Angeles, working to take advantage of both the opportunities provided by my firm, but also the wealth of diverse cultural experiences of living in this dense urban environment.  I am proud to be living in Downtown LA and disproving the myth that life here is spent in your car in traffic.  DTLA is an amazing place with a momentum that would be hard to stop and I'm excited to be part of it professionally and personally.

Employment

TCA Architects, Los Angeles, CA, US, Architect

Joining TCA has been an exciting an opportunity to join a highly respected firm and to expand my architectural experience into the Mulit-family market. The fast paced nature of the projects is a platform to gain a broad basis of knowledge ranging from yield studies, to detailing, to bidding and permitting. Since joining TCA I have had significant involvement in one of the most notable large podium style project in the Downtown Los Angeles. The project encompasses almost an entire city block with both retail and apartments within two distinct buildings and is currently under construction. A 520 unit podium project in Irvine, will begin construction in early 2015. This project is being designed as a LEED Silver complex of two podiums with three separate buildings above. Working closely with the client and the clients consultants we have moved this project from Design Development to Bid in less than 6 months. The adaptive reuse of a mid-century 7 story structure in the North Hollywood area will be one focus for the last quarter of 2014. Having developed a close working relationship with the owner, we hope to create an icon for the surrounding neighborhood.

JLF & Associates, Bozeman, MT, US, Project Manager

JLF & Associates is a boutique, architect led design-build firm focused on exemplary luxury residential projects throughout the U.S. I worked closely with senior associates and the design principal through all stages of multiple projects from programming through construction and commissioning. Typical projects run 2 years in design and 2 years of construction with budgets well in excess of $1000 p.s.f. As a project manager with JLF, responsibilities included the gamut of architectural practice activities from in house and consultant team management to client meetings, and construction administration. The design process was one of collaboration, often requiring the ability to utilize both hand and computer skills to communicate and develop ideas. These projects are highly detailed, with construction sets are deep and highly detailed, often exceeding 100pp of architectural. Software tools included AutoCad, Revit, Photoshop, Prolog, Microsoft Office Suite, and Bluebeam.

Blue Marble Design, llc, Tucson, AZ, US & Bozeman, MT, US, Principal/Sole Practitioner

As a sole practitioner I quickly developed a successful architectural practice focused on the under-served residential remodel industry. In addition, I merged my retail background with my design skills as an architect for a highly regarded retail store. Residential remodel projects varied from the small bath renovation to allow an Alzheimers patient to remain in his home, to the re-envisioning of an entire home. Through developing close working relationships with the building community, I was able to build the firm to a point where I had more than a 3 month stock of work within the first 9 months. In addition, it was necessary for me to contract for drafting help in order to meet demand. Beyond success in design and relationship building, positive comments from permitting officials regarding the quality of my drawings and my professional approach were highly rewarding.

Burns Wald Hopkins & Shambach, Tucson, AZ, US, Consulting Architectural Intern

As consulting intern, I was hired to assist in the construction document coordination and preparation for a LEED rated research facility at Northern Arizona University. Burns Wald Hopkins was the architect of record, with the design architect being Hopkins from the UK. In addition to developing details and general production, it was my responsibility to efficiently convert the MicroStation files sent from the design architect into AutoCad files that more closely matched the construction document office standards. Although I was asked to join the firm in a permanent position, Blue Marble Design had grown to the point where it was a full time endeavor.

As a recent graduate from the M.Arch program and Miami, I was fortunate to join THK. Principal Jerry Taylor worked closely with me as a mentor to develop project management and construction administration skills. While drawing production, detail development and set coordination were the primary responsibilities the workload of the firm required that I be an integral part of all project phases for a multi-family and office complex located in Missoula, MT.
