About 

Carlos Bobonis Colorado is an industrial designer, artist, educator and administrator currently based in New York city. His work is focused on identifying and developing new products for local and international markets, as well as offering groundbreaking solutions for design and manufacturing challenges. He served for the past four years as Fabrication Laboratory Director at a design and architecture university in Puerto Rico, where he has introduced close to 500 students and faculty members to digital fabrication capabilities and model and prototype construction. He is also actively researching the history of industrial design in Puerto Rico, with a focus on new product development as a catalyst for sustainable economic growth.

Bobonis Colorado’s client portfolio ranges from startups and young entrepreneurs to Fortune 500 companies. He collaborates with local designers, architects and craftsmen in the development of prototypes, new products and services.

Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico, Ponce, PR, US, Director of Fabrication Department / School of Architecture

Leads and administers a cutting edge fabrication laboratory for the PUCPR’s Architecture
School, guiding and teaching over 350 students and 60 faculty members about model
fabrication and construction techniques.

Designed a 3,500sq. ft workshop’s layout, overseeing the purchase and installation of its
machines and equipment.

Appointed as the architectural fabrication platform coordinator, responsible for strategic
development of the Minor in Architectural Fabrication as well as dealing with the lab’s
long term vision within the school’s curriculum.

Responsible for the development of the shop’s safety protocols and systems used by
students, faculty and guests.

Developed a network of local and international craftsmen and material providers.

Creating the school’s material library program, and implemented Material Connection’s virtual library.

Head Creative Director and Coordinator for the School’s special fabrication projects.

Works along with the school’s administration to develop industry-related initiatives such as:
- Excellence in Design Grant sponsored by Reinhold Jewelers
- Arrecife Entrepreneurial Ecosystem- program driven to identify and promote students’ projects with commercial and entrepreneurship potential
