Neal Beckstedt Studio, New York, NY, US, Studio Director / Project Manager

I worked as both Studio Director and Project Manager at Neal Beckstedt Studio, a New York City based boutique interior design practice founded by Neal Beckstedt in 2010. Within these roles, and head of the architectural side of the company, I had the opportunity of working throughout all phases of the design process, focusing primarily on Material Research, Construction Documents, Project Specifications and Construction Administration. As Studio Director, I was responsible for Project Staffing, Scheduling, Client relations, and overseeing all active projects throughout the office; among other things.

1100 Architect, New York, NY, US, Designer

I’ve had the pleasure of working at 1100 Architect, a New York City and Frankurt based architecture firm founded by David Piscuskas and Juergen Riehm in 1983. At 1100, my primary contribution was for the design and administration of the office’s largest and fastest interior renovation project in NYC, Standard Industries. Working alongside a large team, which included Principles and Project Managers, I worked on revising Construction Documents, reviewing Submittals, and approving Shop Drawings. I was simultaneously the project's lead for the design and administration of the entire Security System for the 23,000 sq. ft. renovation project. This included the design of all doors, door hardware, wall assemblies, IT closets and server rooms.

LEVENBETTS, New York, NY, US, Intermediate Architect

I worked as both Project Architect and Project Manager at LEVENBETTS, a New York City based architecture practice founded by David Leven and Stella Betts in 1997. Within these roles, I had the opportunity of working throughout all phases of the design process, focusing primarily on Material Research, Construction Documents, Project Specifications and Construction Administration. I administered the construction of the East Flatbush Public Library, an 8,000 sq. ft. renovation project, LEVENBETTS’ first awarded NYC public project in 2014. As project lead for the library beginning in 2016, I guided the project from 50% Construction Documents through 100% Bid Documents, while simultaneously being the point of contact between client, consultants, and city agencies.

While taking on East Flatbush, I maintained my contribution to the design and administration of multiple projects, ranging in various scales. Projects such as Cornell University’s Weill Hall, an 8,300 sq. ft. renovation project, where my responsibilities involved coordinating CD Sets, reviewing Submittals, approving Shop Drawings and administering the final phases of the construction. SA House, a 2,070 sq. ft. single family home located in Hillsdale, NY, which is currently being built. As well as the fabrication and installation of a series of public benches located in the Miami Design District, in which I held direct communication with the client, the Miami Design District Associates, contractor, and fabricator -- Concreteworks; a fabrication studio based out of San Francisco, CA.

Toward the end of my time at LEVENBETTS, I led the design, fabrication, and installation of Zoid, a structure that is part of a series of curated architectural installations at Art Omi located in Ghent, NY. As project lead, I oversaw the design and created a series of drawings that were implemented throughout both the fabrication and installation phases of the project. These drawings focused on details, sequencing strategies, panelization and assembly diagrams; allowing for the project to be fabricated within 2 months and assembled in 5 days. Zoid was awarded both the Jury Award and Popular Vote at the 2018 Architizer A+ Awards under the Cultural-Pavilion category. It has continued to attract people and various types of activities over the years, some of which include a wedding and a commercial showcasing the Birkenstock 1774 collection.

Education

The New School, New York, NY, US, MArch, School of Constructed Environments

I received my M.Arch from Parsons The New School for Design in May 2015. During my time there I was part of the 2014 Design Workshop, a studio that provides pro bono architectural and construction services to nonprofit organizations while giving graduate students the opportunity to see a project develop from schematic design through construction. That year we designed and built two pavilions for the Sunset Park Pool Center run by the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation. Under the leadership of Alfred Zollinger, we were responsible for Construction Documents, Shop Drawings, client relations, full scale mockups, and presentations, one of which was to Landmarks Preservation Commission at City Hall.

Beton Hala Waterfront Competition - Jury Recommendation, Other

"With the general aim to create an integrated urban infrastructure, the proposal for the Beton Hala Waterfront competition by office ReduX creates a way to produce a provocative architectural vision. As programs, spaces and typologies are interwoven, this center is a vision of the future progression of Belgrade as a hub for business and culture. As a result, this allows residents and visitors to experience an ultimate experience of the past, present, and future. More images and architects’ description after the break." - ArchDaily.com
