I am looking to expand my horizons and experience new environments.
A little about me, I have been excited with my initial choice of architecture, and my love of this field has grown with every new aspect and different area of the profession. During my years at Florida A&M University, I was on the recieving end of a unique environment as architecture schools go. My school had a "family" feeling, everyone new each other due to smaller class sizes and all teachers were available for questions and even critiques. I felt that even our course loads were unique from most schools in that rather focusing solely on the envelope and conceptuality of a project, we focused on structure and aesthetics that compliment yet stand out from surrounding architecture of that context. Urban design is also a big concern throughout the years, having several electives offered really prepared me for my final year where one semester long project focused on urban design.
With Urban design, I found another area of architecture that met my desire to do more with a building and to make some impact on surrounding architecture. My urban design semester also provided me the experience of working within groups in a collaborative nature. From my experience working in group environments, I have come to the conclusion that those situations create unique opportunities and breed new ideas into a design.
Outside of school, I have been fortunate to have experience within the architecture and engineering fields. I began my experience as a freshman as a CAD consultant at a local engineering firm mostly working on redlined construction drawings and creating plumbing risers from shop drawings. As a junior, I assumed a position as architect liaison at a local blueprint shop managing our list of available blueprints and projects only for specific bidders and updating our online plan room. Finally, as a senior, I was able to work as a consultant with a local contractor for a few projects and work with a few private clients as a 3D designer to help with the pre design of custom homes. Aside from the relevant job experience in this field, I appreciate my longstanding jobs elsewhere for their character building experiences, which have allowed me to work alongside professionals in our field with comportment and professionalism.
