Deakin University, Waterfront Campus, Geelong, Victoria, MArch, Master of Architecture (Design)
The Master of Architecture programme provided me with a specialist education, building upon an established background in architecture and built environment studies. It offered me advanced studies in cultural, historical, technological, design, environmental and theoretical knowledge, and helped me developed the ethical, evaluative and research frameworks which underpin the architecture field.
The Master of Architecture degree was designed to allow incorporation of the final units required to fulfill the academic requirements needed for professional accreditation and registration of graduates in Australia and abroad.
This course is accredited (within Australia) by the Australian Institute of Architects, the Architects Registration Board of Victoria and the Architects Accreditation Council of Australia.
Deakin University, Waterfront Campus, Geelong, BArch, Bachelor of Arts (Architecture)
The Bachelor of Arts (Architecture) course now known as Bachelor of Design (Architecture) comprised cutting edge content from the latest research and is designed with a global perspective. The course placed an emphasis on real work applications, which allowed me to study architecture from day one.
During the course, my studies explored architectural ideas, history, philosophy, design and communication as well as building science and technology. The course was designed to meet the needs of students who ultimately intended to complete the Master of Architecture course and practise architecture.
Some of the units I studied included Austral-Asian Architecture, Architecture Design, Graphic and Coded Communication, Building Materials Science, Computer Aided Modelling and Construction and Structures.
Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT), City Campus, Dip. Building Design & Drafting
This 2-year program, now known as Advanced Diploma of Building Design (Architectural), focused on the practical and technical application of design skills. During the course I learned about the presentation, documentation and architectural workflow processes for building projects that engage with the site, user needs and the environment.
This was a hands-on program that helped me develop specialised skills and knowledge through a variety of learning experiences from freehand drawing to digital applications that augment architectural workflows, construction technology and documentation processes.
The key features of this program were:
+Innovative and sustainable design
+Problem solving
+Structural and construction technology
+Project documentation
+Architectural project administration.
During the course, I learned to communicate and work effectively with a variety of stakeholders including regulatory authorities and a wide range of consultants associated with the design, construction and building services that is common in a real working environment.
