Janke Basses, LLC., Manhattan, KS, US, Owner and Designer
I began my own business in 2007 designing and fabricating custom designed bass guitars. I continue to do this today, with a client base around the country.
Isotope Interactive, LLC., Manhattan, KS, US, Owner and Designer
As a personal interest, I enjoy graphic design, especially as it relates to interactive user experiences. Primarily using Flash as an interface, I opened my own company for website design in 2008. The decline of Flash and my own availability to produce work forced me to close the business in 2012.
M2 Studio, Inc., Dallas, TX, US, Project Manager and Digital Artist
After graduating college, I worked for M2 Studio as a Digital Artist in Architectural Visualization. I worked on more than eighty projects in that time, more than twenty of which I managed either individually or in small teams. Projects namely included competitions and final artwork for local architectural firms like HKS, HOK, Perkins and Will, Lauck Group, and RTKL. Being from an architectural background, I was also involved in design development with many projects from HKS architects as the designers liked to have immediate, real time feedback of their design revisions.
The University of Kansas, Lawrence, KS, US, Masters, Master of Arts in Architecture
Currently, my Masters studies are focused on the thesis topic of Phenomenological Aspects within Architectural Visualization, in which I am analyzing the current state of visualization in the industry and how to better connect the user with the architecture being presented. Current uses of visualization have become an art form unto themselves, there is no doubt. However, they fail to express the true nature of the architectural design in so many attempts that I have seen. My efforts for this research will try to create an animation that connects the viewer in a phenomenological setting, with the emphasis being on expressing the true experience. Phenomenology is used as a base line theory to which I adhere all of the ideological philosophies of the animation to, specifically the architecture of Peter Zumthor and the writings of Christian Norgberg-Shultz.
Kansas State University, Manhattan, KS, US, Bachelors, Interior Architecture and Product Design
At Kansas State University, the Interior Architecture and Product Design program is an accredited, 5-year degree with a Bachelors of Interior Architecture being earned. Today, the program has been bolstered to a 5-year first professional Masters degree.
The curriculum is established in such a way as to give students a well rounded education of macro and micro scales of design. Projects ranging from small handheld objects in product design to furniture design, and from small residential to large scale commercial buildings are explored. Supporting courses included professional development, digital applications using BIM, CAD, and 3D visualization, as well as Construction Documentation were also focused on.
At the culmination of my schooling, I focused my degree in space planning and furniture design, with a minor focus in lighting design and implementation.
