Mona Ghandi is an architect, interior designer, urban designer, researcher and educator. She obtained her bachelor degree in architecture from Tehran University in 2006 followed by a master degree in architecture in 2010. In 2012, she received her second master degree in architecture from University of California, Berkeley. She has taught design studio in UC Berkeley and San Jose State University. She has also served as a design critic at UC Berkeley, San Jose State University and California College of Art.
Her research is in social architecture, interactive architecture, computational infrastructure, sustainable architecture, fabrication and parametric design. More specifically her interest lies in digital design in integration with computation, material systems and performance, examining how the materiality of the built environment can better address issues of sustainability and recycling in the design and promoting highly articulated and performative built environments. She aims to create an interdisciplinary medium between technology, urban design, architecture and Interior design.
She has more than ten years of professional work experience in various projects, and at different scales ranging over residential and Industrial projects, museums and cultural projects, urban projects and landscape. Recently she has also collaborated with the Emerging Objects_ a well known, creatively driven, MAKE-tank at the forefront of 3D printing architecture and interior design— experimenting innovative materials that are not yet widely available in 3D printing by focusing on creating architectural elements prototype with the latest 3D printing technology.
Her work has been recognized with several awards and has been published in numerous global publications such as Archdaily, Bustler, Archinect, I like Architecure and Memar. She has exhibited in The Venice Biennale of Architecture in 2012. She was the Finalist Entries, Honorable mention in “Transiting Cities, low carbon Future”, International competition in Latrobe, Australia which was held by RMIT University.
