Life beckons us to pursue our passions. Design is something I have always loved and have long hoped to pursue a career in this industry. In the past, I struggled to find a way to bring together two of my greatest passions—design and serving others. The answer became clear when I was introduced to the idea of studying gerontology. As a result, my professional goals have transformed into the intent of working within the healthcare industry, particularly in long term care living environments. The interdisciplinary knowledge and skills I have gained, and will continue to build upon, from my gerontology classes assure me that I will be able to fulfill my desire to help others. Work in healthcare design is especially appealing to me because I enjoy that I could have a profound influence on the lives of staff, family members, and patients alike through the designed interior environment.
