Mahatma Ghandi once said, “A man is but the product of his thoughts. What he thinks, he becomes.” Since the 8th grade, I have had a fascination with building design and all I've ever wanted was to become an architect. In 2009, I received my Master of Architecture Degree from the University of Kansas. Prior to graduation, in the summer of 2008, I worked as a Student Intern for NSP Architecture. My main duties included drafting construction documents, floor plans, sections, and elevations using AutoCAD. I also created 3D models and renderings using Revit and Sketch Up.In 2011, I accepted a position with Americorps, relocated to Fort Worth, TX, and began working for Habitat for Humanity. My employment with the non-profit has been very beneficial. I have gained hands-on construction experience and I learn more and more every day. Some of my duties include assisting the Program Manager with training and leading groups of volunteers on site, assisting with the construction of new homes, and delivering and managing materials. The agency has also given me the opportunity to take lead in drafting all floor plans, elevations, and MEP layouts for Energy-Star certified homes.
