I have worked in studios in London, Barcelona and Nancy, France that have provided valuable experiences in producing high quality technical drawings, developing physical and rendered 3D models, compiling detailed documentation for clients and liaising with m!anufacturers concerning materials and sustainable technologies.
I possess a variety of different skills that have contributed to my career development, however I consider three of these to be especially critical - creative skills, people skills and technical skills. Everyone has particular strengths and I feel integrating these together is an i!mportant ingredient to success.
In short, I am a reliable, honest and positive professional who enjoys working collaboratively and creatively in order to deliver an exceptional design service for my employer, colleagues and client.
Lee's Associates, London, GB, Architectural Technician
Lee’s provided a further opportunity to expand upon working within the commercial sector. Responsibilities included assisting on team proposals, the production of project documentation and evaluating existing surveys in order to achieve accurate representations of each site to determine how each could be used to their maximum potential. Designing for disabled access was a high priority and this required a thorough knowledge of Part M.
Key Projects: The Royal British Legion - Birmingham, Cardiff, Colchester, Manchester, Plymouth. 78 Mount Street.
Alice Poole Architects, London, GB, Architectural Technician
Alice Poole predominantly worked within the high-end residential market, specifically extensions and refurbishments. Technical site surveys and accurate drawings was a key responsibility and given the relatively small size of the practice, there was a larger expectancy to work independently and to take on multiple roles.
Key Projects: Various residential projects throughout Bedford Park (UK), Elgin Crescent (UK).
dna arquitectos, Barcelona, ES, Architectural Technician
DNA Arquitectos provided a further opportunity to gain international experience. Work involved assisting several architects on projects ranging from initial concept proposals to large scale master plans. Working within an international team and in a foreign language provided unique challenges but at the same time I learnt from these as well as acquiring new skills.
Key Projects: Ciudad Empresarial (Colombia), University of Algeria (Algeria), Residential Tower (Algeria), Luxury Villa (Spain).
House of Fraser, London, GB, Sales Advisor
Whilst continuing my final year studies I became a sales advisor at the House of Fraser and was able to join a completely different work environment. Although my knowledge of the industry was somewhat minuscule to begin with I began to learn what it was like on the other side of retailing and adapt to working with new people on a daily basis.
Matt Scalabrino Architects, Nancy, FR, Architectural Assistant
My second placement allowed me to work in France for several months, work predominantly revolved around technical drawings but also some extensive research and development into sustainable materials. Site experience was also improved. Experiencing the industry abroad was definitely a challenging opportunity but also equally exciting and one that was enjoyed immensely.
Packman Lucas, London, GB, Structural Designer
Packman Lucas provided a greater introduction into the construction industry through a six-month placement. I was able to experience the general process of how projects begin from tender through to completion. Gaining site experience across projects provided an intriguing insight into the construction aspects. I also took and passed the Construction Skills Certification Scheme to demonstrate my health and safety awareness around construction sites. I also maintained an active CPD record relating to a variety of areas.
