My name is Nicholas Ross. I graduated in 2010 with a Bachelors of Architecture
[BArch] from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University [Virginia Tech]; after which
I attended the Southern California Institute of Architecture [SCI-Arc] where I received a
Masters of Design Research - Emerging Systems and Technologies [MDesR EST] in late
2011.
During my time at Virginia Tech I acted as an Executive Chair of Design at C_U P an
international award winning virtual research collaborative which acts as a think tank with
one foot in the university and one foot in the professional world of design. C_U P
establishes an expansive alternative and compliment to traditional design education and
practice. The acronym C_U P stands for Competitions Unite People.
I am a founding collaborator at smallgroup. smallgroup is the continuation of a
collaborative project that began while pursuing my bachelors degree. smallgroup has no
goals, only directions that keep it in a state of constant exploration. This means that
smallgroup is the project itself and our experiments carry the momentum that keeps us
going. We see these experiments as moments in the evolution of our practice.
I am currently based in Los Angeles, CA and is looking to begin my professional career.
