Experience

DAVIS DESIGN – OMAHA, NE 2006-2011
OFFICE DIRECTOR | SENIOR ASSOCIATE
Led a multi-discipline, highly creative, interactive design team focused on higher education and advanced technology including; development projects, libraries, medical, and industrial facilities.
 Managed project-specific design efforts that resulted in creative solutions that were functional, visually exciting, human centered, state-of-the-art, and budgeted up to $50 million.
 Took part in business development and project pursuits, including the preparation of proposals and presentations to prospective clients and industry as well as fee negotiation and drafting of contractual agreements.
 Ensured design drawings and technical specifications fulfilled project requirements, reported and met with code officials on variances and made recommendations to bring the design into compliance.
 Raised the level of design through an inclusive design process that engaged the client as an active participant using 3D design charettes.
 Developed the “community” planning and operation concepts for Ambassador Health Systems delivering state of the art therapy procedures through a complete renovation of their facilities.

DEPUTY DIRECTOR OF DESIGN (2000-2006)
Provided clients with design and project approach for numerous national and international projects. Effectively managed a 12-member team of architectural professionals.
 Raised the level of design through the development and implementation of a new Design Excellence Program.
 Played a major role in securing large national projects (i.e., an $80 million project for the University of Utah Marriot Library, a $50 million project for the UNLV- Lied Library, a $25 million project for the Palm Beach Atlantic University- Warren Library).
 Recipient of the Academic Library of the Year Design Award (State of New York)
 Led the design effort for mixed use entertainment center in China and a new university campus in the United Arab Emirates; both well over 1 million square feet.
 Developed the “Information/knowledge commons” (centralized computer and information media access) used in the design of the new UNLV Library and setting a new standard for academic library design.

PROJECT MANAGER / SENIOR DESIGNER (1988-2000)
Served as project manager and lead designer on several projects; coordinating team efforts, setting schedules and managing budgets.
 Directed and coordinated more than a dozen complex renovation projects and completing them on time and on budget. Projects ranged from $5 million to $50 million.
 Recipient of several design awards including: the Omaha Civic Auditorium renovation, Westside High School renovation, Iowa Western Community College Aviation Maintenance Facility and others.
 Provided visionary mixed-use development concepts for the abandoned Union Pacific shops property adjacent to the CBD in Omaha. Prepared concept drawings, provided numerous presentations, met with community leaders and generated community support for Omaha’s largest redevelopment project.

Relevant Projects
Arizona State University, Law Library, Tempe, AZ, (20 million))– This new library utilizes natural daylight as a major design element.  Provided programing, architectural detailing, and post- occupancy follow-up.
Roberts Wesleyan College, Golisono Library, Rochester, NY (22 million) – This new 43,000  sf  campus library instantly doubled its patronage and serves as a campus landmark, raising the bar for all future building on campus.  Served as lead designer, programmer, and project manager.
University of Nevada-Las Vegas, Lied Library, Las Vegas NV (55 million) – This new 300,000 sf university library redefines library with the development of the “Information Commons” and the “ASRS”.  Served as lead designer, programmer, project manager, and also provided post- occupancy follow-up.
University of Utah, Marriot Library, Salt Lake City, UT (80 million) – This 600,000 sf renovation and addition project is all about way-finding and circulation.  A complete reorganization of services was required and with the incorporation of an “ASRS” the collection was allowed to grow and be properly managed.  Served as lead programmer and designer.
United Arab Emirates University, New Campus Master Plan, Al Ain, UAE (500 million)– This new master plan combines 11 existing campuses into one new campus. The plan utilized numerous green technologies in an effort to raise the bar for campus design. Served as lead designer.
Iowa Western Community College, Aviation Maintenance Training Facility, Council Bluffs. IA (5.5 million)– A new 34,000 sf state-of-the-art aviation facility, located adjacent to the Council Bluffs, Iowa Airport. Served as designer, programmer and project manager..
      Beebe Runyan Warehouse Conversion, Omaha, NE (26 million)- This 216,000 sf project converted the Beebe Runyan Furniture warehouse into 80 high-end condominiums. The project utilizes green concepts and natural day light as major design elements.  Served as project leader and lead designer.
Carl T. Curtis Midwest Regional Headquarters Building, National Park Service, Omaha, NE  (18 million) – This new facility is LEED Gold Certified and utilizes numerous green technologies as design elements in creating a very memorable facility. Served as programmer and a design liaison, providing design leadership and direction.
Omaha Civic Auditorium/Arena Renovation, Omaha, NE (28 million) – This 500,000 sf facility was a complete gut and reorganization of how the facility is used, including how patrons enter and circulate for events.  Served as lead designer, project architect and contract administrator.     
Strategic Air and Space Museum, Ashland, NE (34 million)– This new facility captures the essence of this time period with the SR-71 leading the way.  Provided conceptual design direction and provided design leadership and direction.
      Lied Learning and Technology Center, Omaha, NE (10 million) – This 40,000  sf state-of-the-art facility utilizes cutting edge technology for the research of deafness and vision disorders. The facility uses natural day light and environmentally friendly materials as design elements so visitors and users not only feel welcome but are inspired.  Served as lead designer, project manager and contract administrator.
      Nebraska Medical Center, Hixson-Lied Center for Clinical Excellence, Omaha, NE (100 million) – This new multi-story, state-of-the-art facility connects two medical campuses, UNMC and Clarkson Hospital making the Nebraska Medical Center a unified reality.  Served as lead designer. 
      University of Nebraska Medical Center, Lied Transplant Center, Omaha, NE (60 million) – A new 250,000 sq. ft. facility provides an unparalleled link between research and transplant-related care. Served as a member of the design team.
Palm Beach Atlantic University, Warren Library, West Palm Beach, FL (25 million) – This new 87,000 sf university library creates a new campus landmark, embracing a learning atmosphere where both students and staff come together. Served as lead designer and programmer.
