Born on July 10, 1983 in Boston, Massachusetts, Amy Fitzgerald Tripp had a childhood interest in drawing and building art. It was not until the summer before her Senior year in high school that she realized that her interest in art was a life passion and would play a pivotal role in her pursuit of architectural studies, as well as, her career approach to life.
Tripp graduated from Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) in 2006 with a Bachelor of Architecture degree, as well as, a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Throughout her education at RISD, Tripp went beyond curriculum requirements, studying and exploring within other disciplines. This perpetual exploration fostered the initial desire for interdisciplinary collaboration. Summer and Winter breaks were spent interning with various architects in both Massachusetts and Rhode Island, including: Designer Director at the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA), Cambridge Seven Associates, Inc and a i designs ltd. Throughout her internship experiences she gained experience ranging from analyzing and designing new signage for transit systems, Historical Preservation research, designing layouts for various commercial projects and design concepts for single-family and multi-family housing remodels.
Upon graduating, she continued working for a local RISD alumni at a i designs ltd. in Pawtucket, RI. She worked directly with the principal, managing several projects. In 2007, she moved to the West Coast, with her now husband, in pursuit of new job opportunities, adventure and a new perspective on their lives. Over the course of her stay on the West Coast she has worked for several notable firms in Santa Barbara, CA, most recently Appleton & Associates, Inc.
With over five years of professional experience in the discipline of architecture she has been involved in high end residential, commercial, institutional and historical preservation projects with responsibilities managing projects, including BIM models, drawings, Construction Administration, budget and staff. Her organization and communication skills have allowed her to meet deadlines, as well as, Client expectations. She has also had the privilege to work closely, in every phase of design, along side of the Office Directors and Managing Principals at each office of employment allowing her to gain first hand knowledge and expertise from successful Architects.
In 2012, Tripp decided to explore design from a different perspective by co-founding the studio of fitzgerald forbes with her husband, Adam Forbes Tripp. fitzgerald forbes serves as a platform for the couple to collaborate on a multitude of scales, using various materials, as a creative initiative to make, create and execute their designs. Working on this creative endeavor full-time has allowed her to analyze her goals, views and aesthetic within design, but more importantly architecture. By adjusting the lens in which she has viewed her work at different scales has proved to be beneficial.
Philosophically, Tripp has an affinity for methodical, process orientated work. She approaches all of her work through process, exploration and research. Writing, drawing and model making aid in the creation of each project whether it be an architectural space or wearable objects. Creating a story and background for each project gives it depth and a strong base to support it.
Featured by the Textile Arts Center and Santa Barbara News-Press, Tripp has been recognized for her most recent collaborative work for fitzgerald forbes.
Tripp is a registered associate member of Santa Barbara AIA and Habitat for Humanity of Southern Santa Barbara County.
