PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

GREYSTONE CUSTOM HOMES, LLC – 2003-2011
Project Manager / Partner
Held full decision-making authority for company operations. Directed complete cycle of residential building construction projects ranging from $500,000 to $2 million. Analyzed designs and blueprints, bid on projects, negotiated with contractors, selected subcontractors, purchased materials, and scheduled inspections. Managed project schedules, budgets,  and tasks. Submitted building permits and ensured building code compliance. Approved subcontractor and vendor invoices. Coordinated communications among subcontractors, architect, and the client.
 Conceptualized and developed design-build firm to provide clients with a complete experience and a single source for architectural design, engineering services, and construction project management.
 Completed multiple projects ahead of time and on/under budget; built outstanding relationships with clients through an open-door, positive communication and service excellence approach.
 Led integration of exacting environmental standards within homes built by Greystone. Provided environmental products that conserved natural resources and “green standard” technologies that facilitated several improvements, including cost savings, greater comfort, and low maintenance.


BLR ARCHITECTS – 2002-2009
Lead Project Architect
Oversaw full cycle of architectural projects that include multifamily homes, production housing, and custom homes, managing documents, specifications, and materials. Worked directly with outside consultants – structural engineers, mechanical engineers, civil engineers, landscape architects – as well as with the client on activities as needed. Coordinated meetings with the client, designer, and technical staff to address and resolve issues. Trained and managed interns on various projects. Provided construction administration and permit process services.
 Generated $200,000 in additional revenues in contributing to the company’s growth from 2003 to 2008; brought in numerous former clients (custom home builders) from previous employer to BLR Architects. Earned multiple quarterly bonuses for efforts; implemented several drawing standards for permanent use by the firm.
 Initiated process to hire new college graduates as interns, building the company to a 10-person firm. Improved capabilities of interns through continual training, mentoring, and leadership.
 Created and designed 9 new floor plans for two residential communities in 2 different states (average house cost ranged from $300,000 to $700,000):
- 500-unit residential community in Huntsville, Alabama for Centrum Properties
- 300-unit residential community in Huntley, Illinois for Richmond American Homes

Project Manager / Architect
Launched architectural design business and oversaw all functions/activities. Managed all architectural projects (ranged from single family to multi-family residences and million-dollar custom homes), interacting directly with clients through the design and construction documentation phases of projects. Wrote contracts and specifications, working with villages on code compliance and permit applications. Visited job locations to meet with both subcontractors and clients and identify/resolve field issues; visited construction sites for inspections.
 Built a solid base of custom home builder clients that includes some of Chicago’s largest and most well-established builders. Maintained consistent record of on-time, on-budget project completion.

Visited job sites to review site conditions and note any details that would affect home designs or constructions. Met with clients to discuss ideas and create plans for their new home. Drew design schematics to secure client approval; upon approval, completed working drawing to ensure compliance with city, state, and local building codes. Managed bidding process, analyzing subcontractor bids. Inspected sites to ensure compliance with plans and specifications.
