About

Kent Chesley Carpenter,
Senior Architectural Designer

My Design Philosophy:

I begin each project by visiting the site. This is of most importance, because each building is specific to it's site. No two projects are alike.  The initial site visit allows the more valid ideas to transpire easily in the pre-design phase. It is on the initial site visit I like to have the survey plan for reference, take photos, make notes, and sketches.

I like to get to know you, the more the better if I don't already. Whether you realize it or not, It is our personal memories, and memories of places in our past that makes us comfortable or not with places that we will spend time with in the future. We can also determine the amount of risk taking you want your new building to exhibit, and how comfortable you are with it if it does take new risks and break old rules.

I use the time tested methodology of good design. (Lets talk, I would love to discuss with you what you like, and gain some insight into your ideas of what you consider good design.) I tend to stick with the creative habits that help guide us together through the design process, and on into the construction phase.

It was 1987, in Professor Donna Lucky's design studio during my second year, at The University of Kansas, School of Architecture that I was first introduced to the concept of developing a Parti. A basic scheme or concept for an Architectural Design. A narrative, if you will. We also must have a mutual “Parti”. One we can both be comfortable with, and one that will produce a great successful outcome.

(Give me a call. I would love to collaborate with you on the design of your new project.)
