My architectural philosophy reflects a vision that the future of design must enhance the individual’s environment and promote their potential and spirit by focusing on functional and well-designed space supplemented by sustainable energy and building systems. I have over a decade of construction experience, while obtaining both my degrees. This foundation of knowledge provided me with a unique perspective: a broadened understanding of how construction processes should be integrated in the design process to fully enhance any architectural vision. I have bold ideas and a passionate energy to bring to your team.
I’m a passionate award winning designer with experience in all scales of many design phases from door knobs, lights and furniture to global campus projects worth over $65 million. I have experience with residential, Multi Family, commercial, education, religious and government including DFCM.
I feel the combination of my four skill-sets and passions (construction, software, energy performance and digital fabrication) can be seen throughout my work. I look at these pillars as my architectural toolbox.
Technology is truly changing the industry. I strive to make myself and my work relevant through learning as much as I can about software and integrated project delivery systems. I advocate and work tirelessly to utilize digital tools in the offices I work in to create more thoughtful designs while at the same time making the designs more buildable and affordable. I feel the more we learn as designers the better we are.
Over the past several years I have taught more than 30 team members functional skills in Revit. I feel you learn the most when you teach someone else how to do a something. I’m excited to continue this process of learning, teaching and learning.
My current role at M-rad is mentoring, creating office standards and employee training. I’m part of a young office with very dedicated and hard-working designers, whom are still learning to design for the real world and budgets. I have been guiding these young designers through the process of architecture with an emphasis on how to follow-through with a project, balancing design intent within the quality, cost and time paradigm of delivering a project to the client.
I believe that architecture is a process based profession, in which the architect should develop a series of systematic approaches to dissect and fundamentally understand down to first principles the client’s true needs and desires. This systems approach is the true product and service. The building or product is the final deliverable and its form and function should be informed by the process. The design that comes from this process should be sympathetic to its context and should functionally enhance the end user experience without them even noticing. The function should just automatically help them learn more, focus more, feel more, and experience more in a natural and intuitive way.
I’m always asking how can we design and represent it better? How can we build it better? How can we make it/ manufacture it better?
