Arwidssonstiftelsen Foundation Student Prize 2024, 1st Place
For the sixth year, the Arwidsson Foundation, together with the KTH School of Architecture, is awarding a prize for the best degree project in Applied Urban Planning. In 2024, the prize goes to Shimanto Goswami and Sean Meyer, who in their master's thesis chose to study the traditional recycling in Bangladesh of textiles, mainly discarded clothes, from large parts of Europe. With today's expectations and requirements for recycling, how can this business be developed further? They have problematized the issue of recycling, which constitutes an important part of a complex, global system that takes its place in urban environments. In this concrete urban construction, the authors have demonstrated a clear systems thinking and understanding of flows and chains of interlinking processes and how this is central not only in dense built-up environments but also in this small town.
