About

I am a recent graduate from the University of Virginia, receiving my masters in both Landscape Architecture and Architecture. I have additional experience with my BS. in Architecture and a minor in Sustainable Cities with concentrations in sustainable and urban design. I have a design research interest in pairing the well-being of humans with the outdoors. Can the function of landscapes benefit not only human/non-human physical well-being but also our psychological well-being?

Project Title: Repurposing Paper Waste into Handcrafted Journals: A Sustainable Community
Engagement Initiative

Description:
In our off-ground student residences, there is a concerning trend of recyclable materials, particularly paper waste, being discarded improperly. Many students, especially those without access to transportation, dispose of items like cardboard, paper, and junk mail in trash collection containers instead of recycling bins. This presents an opportunity to intervene and redirect this waste towards a more sustainable and purposeful end. This proposal addresses this issue by utilizing discarded paper materials to create handcrafted journals through workshops and community engagement initiatives.

Objective:
The primary objective of this project is to divert and repurpose paper waste generated by off-ground student residences into personal hand-sewn journals. Through a series of workshops, participants will learn about the environmental impact of their waste disposal habits, explore papermaking and bookbinding processes, and gain skills in creating their own journals. Additionally, the project aims to promote the benefits of journaling and self-reflection to foster personal growth and mindfulness among participants.
