Education

University of San Diego, San Diego, CA, US, BArch, Architecture

As an architecture student working towards my bachelor’s degree, my studies encompassed a blend of creativity, technical skills, and theoretical knowledge. In the early years, I focused on foundational courses such as architectural history, theory, and principles of design, which provided a broad understanding of the historical context and conceptual frameworks that shape architectural practices. Design studios were central to the program, where I applied my knowledge to create architectural projects, encouraging hands-on learning, creativity, and innovation. Alongside these, I took courses in building technology, construction methods, and materials science, learning about structural systems, environmental systems, and sustainable design practices. Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software and other digital tools was also emphasized.

Hands-on workshops and labs were integral, providing practical skills in model-making, material testing, and construction techniques. Field trips and site visits to observe real-world architecture and construction sites offered insights into the practical applications of my studies. Internships were encouraged, allowing me to gain real-world experience, network with professionals, and understand the day-to-day operations of architectural firms. Each semester culminated in a major design project where I presented my work, integrating learning across various disciplines. Regular critiques and reviews helped refine my designs and improve my presentation skills.

In the final year, I undertook a capstone project, demonstrating my ability to apply all aspects of my education to a complex architectural problem. Working in close-knit cohorts fostered a collaborative environment, with group projects and team-based assignments emphasizing the importance of teamwork. Extracurricular activities, such as architecture clubs, competitions, and exhibitions, provided additional opportunities for learning, networking, and showcasing my work. Graduating with a bachelor’s degree in architecture prepared me for entry-level positions in architectural firms, further studies in a master’s program, or other roles in the design and construction industries, equipping me with a robust portfolio and a critical understanding of the built environment.
