New York Institute of Technology (NYIT), New York, NY, US, Masters, Master of Science in Architecture ,Urban Design (MS.AUD)
As a student in the M.S. in Architecture, Urban Design (MSAUD) program, I am immersed in an exciting journey that explores the intricate dynamics of contemporary urbanism. This post-professional program is not just about designing buildings; it's about shaping the very essence of our cities in response to pressing global challenges.
At the heart of the MSAUD lies a deep dive into the intersection of urban forms, technology, climate resilience, and socio-cultural complexities. Through advanced design studios, I'm learning to become a proactive force for change, addressing critical issues within the rapidly evolving context of 21st-century urban environments.
The program's focus on four key areas—interscalar urbanization, climate resilience, applied urban technology, and socio-cultural aspects of cities—provides a holistic framework for understanding and transforming urban landscapes. Whether it's examining the impact of urbanization across different scales or integrating socio-cultural insights into design processes, every aspect of the curriculum is geared towards creating sustainable, equitable, and vibrant cities.
One of the most enriching aspects of the MSAUD experience is the opportunity to study in iconic urban hubs like New York City and engage with diverse metropolitan regions worldwide. Built upon a foundation of existing professional expertise in architecture, landscape, or urban design, this MSAUD program offers unique opportunity, which expanded my knowledge, skills, and perspectives in shaping the future of cities and urban innovation.
Pillai College of Archittecture, Navi Mumbai,India, BArch, Bachelor of Architecture
During my time at PiCA, affiliated with the University of Mumbai, I embarked on an exciting journey towards a Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch.) degree. This comprehensive five-year program, accredited by the Council of Architecture, was a profound exploration of the art and science of building design.
In the initial year, the focus was on laying a strong foundation. We delved into developing essential skills and mastering the language of architectural expression. From sketching to conceptualizing, every aspect was geared towards preparing us for the creative challenges ahead. Moving into the second to fourth years, the curriculum became more intensive. We dived deep into architecture design, supported by technical subjects essential for executing our visions. Immersing ourselves in the history of architecture and humanities added layers of understanding and inspiration to our work.
As B.Arch. students, the fifth year marked the pinnacle of our academic journey. Here, we were tasked with completing a Design Dissertation and Thesis, showcasing our expertise and innovative thinking. Alongside these major projects, we explored electives and advanced technical topics, refining our skills for the professional world.
One unique aspect of our program was the opportunity for real-world experience. In the fourth year, we undertook a 16-weeks professional training period in architectural firms, Where I got an opportunity to intern at India's one of the leading architecture firm - " Architect Hafeez Contractor ". This hands-on experience not only enhanced my skills but also provided valuable insights into the industry. Apart from this study tours and site visits broadened our perspective, allowing us to witness architectural wonders firsthand and learn from real-world examples.
Overall, the B.Arch. program at PiCA was not just about earning a degree; it was about nurturing creativity, honing skills, and preparing us to make meaningful contributions to the world of architecture.
