I am writing to apply for a position within your firm. I am currently employed as an Architect at Bates Smart Architects, with 7 years of industry and Revit experience, five of which are post-Masters degree. I have been working remotely for the past 2 years. I hold a Bachelor of Architectural Design from Deakin University and a Masters of Architecture from The University of Melbourne. I am highly driven and interested in continuing to pursue my interest in architecture and in improving my knowledge and skills within the industry.
Throughout my years of employment, I have been given many opportunities to assist in all design phases, from Schematic Design through to Construction Documentation and even Contract Administration. I am proficient in documenting and detailing in Revit and am able to produce renders in Lumion. I am also experienced in the use of other technical software such as Photoshop, Indesign, Illustrator and Microsoft Office suites to name a few; I am a fast learner and am always interested in continuing to acquire and enhance my skillset.
I can coordinate consultants and contractors and communicate ideas with clients. My previous and current employers are heavily involved in projects for local councils, state government and the private education sector and I have been fortunate to work closely with these stakeholders. I have frequently demonstrated leadership by providing advice to clients, consultants and contractors throughout Victoria, and now Queensland. My advice has been provided throughout all stages of the design and construction process, whether it be for functional layout suggestions, material colours and finishes palates, electrical and plumbing fittings and fixtures selection and location, structural and services coordination and contractor site instruction as well as variation review and approval. In Victoria there are many stringent heritage and planning overlays which must be adhered to and taken into consideration throughout early design stages. These overlays, along with other regulatory requirements plus the client’s budget, needs and wants, impose stringent design guidelines which must be adhered to. I have observed that in circumstances where the client is uncertain of their needs and wants, it is essential for the architect and construction manager to show initiative, take responsibility and show leadership. The guidance and support provided to the client is often the driving factor of creating a design suitable for the circumstances, location and budget. On many occasions, our design teams have completed projects that have exceeded the client’s requirements and expectations.
I am a proficient communicator and have good conflict resolution skills, which, as I have experienced, are essential in communicating with a diversity of interest groups. Throughout my professional experience, these skills have assisted in developing and maintaining a good rapport with all clients and many contractors. I have an ever-positive can-do attitude, am a quick thinker and believe that it is always better to bring solutions to the table rather than only bringing issues; this is a particularly important quality to have when discussing client’s queries during a meeting or resolving on-site construction issues with the contractor. I have shown leadership, in my previous and current firm, by actively encouraging more environmentally sustainable choices resulting in diversification of ideas.
As a registered Architect with seven years of industry experience, now registered for 3 years, I have decided that it is time to move on to a role more suited to my interests and lifestyle.
