I have been practicing in New York since 2015 working primarily on residential and commercial projects. I have extensive experience in wood and metal fabrication and my work has been published in the NY Times, French GQ, Popular Mechanics, and Retro & Vintage Design.
I have more than 15 years of experience teaching architecture students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. In addition to teaching undergraduate design studios at Parsons, I have taught furniture design studios, courses on materials & processes, and graduate history & theory seminars at the University of Washington.
I received an MArch and PhD in Built Environment from the University of Washington and attended the Architectural Association in London as part of the Visiting Students Programme. My research and academic publications are focused on making, Phenomenology, and the sacred architecture of Swedish architect Sigurd Lewerentz.

Projects include two ground up multi-family residential developments in Brooklyn, multiple apartment and single family home renovations, tenant restaurant spaces in the Marketline at Essex Crossing, and the new event space for Make it Nice at the International Center for Photography.

BKNYdesign focused on handcrafted furniture, objects and environments dedicated to longevity and cultural relevance through careful attention to materials, processes, and meaningful use. Operating as a design studio and workshop, BKNYdesign developed and prototyped products and designed and fabricated custom furniture. Additionally, the studio provided graphic design and visual communication services on a contract basis to Egon Zehnder International.

Responsibilities included design and fabrication of retail and residential interiors, exhibitions and furniture as well as preparing shop drawings, bids, invoices, and client communications. Notable projects include Sony Style Christmas Window Display, Purl Soho, an art installation at the U.S. Federal Courthouse in Brooklyn, and work in a private residence at 40 Mercer.

My research was largely concerned with Phenomenology, specifically focused on the writings of Maurice Merleau-Ponty in relation to the role of imagination in meaningful experience. My dissertation looked at the sacred architecture, namely churches, chapels, and cemeteries of Sigurd Lewerentz through the lens of Merleau-Ponty's The Visible and the Invisible.

The Valle Scholarship & Scandinavian Exchange Program supports the exchange of graduate students between the University of Washington and institutions and organizations in Nordic countries. This exchange enriches students' educational experience through international perspective and experience in the fields of civil and environmental engineering, architecture, landscape design, urban planning, and construction management. The program is unique in that students are fully funded and receive a monthly stipend, tuition and travel to and from their destination.

Alpha Rho Chi, Award
Since 1931, the Bronze Alpha Rho Chi Medal has recognized graduating architecture students for their leadership and service and what they offer the future of the profession. Judged by the faculty of each school, the medal honors the graduating student who has shown an ability for leadership, performed willing service for his or her school or department, and gives promise of real professional merit through their attitude and personality.
Each accredited school of architecture in the United States and Canada may award the Bronze Medal to one (1) graduating student each year.
