After completing three years of my Bachelor of Architecture degree I felt the need to gain some professional experience in an architecture practice. I worked for ten months at the firm. Unfortunately due to the implications of the pandemic my contract was cut short. I found the experience to be extremely beneficial. I learned the process of creating feasibility studies, planning applications and tender packages for architectural projects. I used both Sketchup and Autocad softwares. I also attended CPD workshops as well as client meetings. This experience has been integral to my journey to become a fully qualified architect.

I completed the five year architectural course at University of Limerick. From my first year in the course I learned how to draft hand drawings and create an architectural presentation. During my second and third years I gained skills in computer software programs such as Autocad, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign and Sketchup. I attended lectures of several different modules regarding architectural history, representation of drawing, environmental approach and construction sequences. After three years I took a gap year in order to gain professional architectural experience. In my last two years of the course, there was a focus on professional practice and construction detailing. My final year comprised of a thesis project. My thesis explored the idea of urban activation through colour. I created a proposal in Limerick City of a craft school and public market with an emphasis on colour, light and texture in shaping the design of the spaces in the project. This course has given me the ability to design and communicate architectural schemes.
