In 2000, as a recent graduate with a Master of Architecture degree from Virginia Tech, I was presented the opportunity to work in a new cement factory construction site in South America. I always knew great Architecture also comes from a profound understanding of materials and construction, so I traveled back to my home country for a year, or so I thought.
So, I stayed for a while, registered as an Architect in Ecuador, became a General Contractor, and established my own design build firm. I ran COVIEDO for over sixteen years, developing different types of projects: from single family homes to multifamily residential towers, from commercial warehouses, to industrial projects. Each was of course a learning opportunity: to design different building types, to build using different materials and techniques, managing (what for me were) decent sized job sites. Eventually I was doing my own small developments: homes and apartments.
I enjoy the profession, I love Architecture: the conception of ideas and developing them through the design process, thinking in terms of materials, construction, and wonder.
I know how to build, I am good at it, I have been doing it for a while. In the end construction comes down to a group of skilled and honest people: in them relies success.
