Stevens Institute of Technology - Schaefer School of Engineering and Science, Hoboken, NJ, US, Industry Assistant Professor

Managed the design, construction, fundraising and public relations of two projects involving students from two universities and five different engineering disciplines. The first was a collaborative program in which Stevens partnered with The New School in NYC and the D.C. Chapter of Habitat For Humanity as a finalist in the Dept. of Energy's 2011 Solar Decathlon Competition. A certified passive house was designed and built by students and relocated to a permanent site in Washington, D.C. where a second house was subsequently built to form a side-by-side duplex. Consuming 85% less energy for heating and cooling, each house was operated by no more than the power of a hair dryer. The second project, was a Dept. of Defense interdisciplinary research initiative that integrated energy, water and waste systems into an innovative and comprehensive "out of the box" housing solution for combat outposts in an effort to reduce fuel and water dependency. A fully functioning, small-scale and adaptable physical prototype of the system was developed on campus.
