About

Art and technology offer partial glimpses of a single endeavor that can be realized in the practice of architecture. The more we blur the borders between these pursuits, the the more they grow and inform the others. The more we separate and define them as disparate entities, the less progress we make with any of them. Buildings are more than shelter. Art is more than aesthetics. Design is more than business.

Our existence is enhanced by the objects we design, the spaces we build, and the art we can and cannot fathom. I want to advance these pursuits by learning from unconventional sources and improving the human condition through the built (and unbuilt) world.

Employment

Gresham Smith, Nashville, TN, US, Architectural Designer

My role here began as an intern architect immediately after graduation and has progressed into the role of project coordinator/architecture designer (license in progress) over the course of 5 years. Most of my time has been spent in the Nashville office working on healthcare projects around the country. I have also spent over a year in our Shanghai office working on larger scale healthcare and CCRC residential projects and a few months in our corporate division working on office and mixed use projects within Nashville.

Within the USA I have spent roughly equal amounts of time between the schematic design, design development and construction documentation phases of these projects with a slightly lesser amount of time spent in pre-contract competitions and construction administration. In China I split my time between pre-contract competitive pursuits and schematic design/design development phased projects.

I have excelled in graphic visualizations and BIM implementation/coordination during my time here and am regularly called upon to assist various projects in these areas within the firm, in particular with visualizations (animations, VR experiences, real-time rendered presentations, and traditional renderings)

I have mostly used Revit during my time here but have also spent significant time with SketchUp and Rhino for various projects. For rendering I've relied on Enscape, Lumion, and Photoshop most of the time and Twinmotion/Unreal Engine, Blender, and the Revit Cloud render to a lesser degree.

Architects Weeks, Ambrose, McDonald, Knoxville, TN, US, Student Intern Architect

I worked here part time while attending university assisting with drawings and renderings. Most of the projects I worked on were higher education and most of my time was split between construction administration and pre-contract visualization and competitive pursuits with less time spent in SD, DD, and CD phases. I also helped assist in BIM implementation and some marketing.

Here I spent time in DataCAD, SketchUp, and Revit while using the Revit Cloud renderer, Kerkythea, and the Adobe Suite for visualizations.
