I am Hanqing Yao, currently doing the Master of Architecture program at the University of Pennsylvania and expecting to graduate in May 2021. I have been studying architecture for seven years. Growing up in Shanghai and moving to Berkeley, then to Philadelphia, the multi-cultural experience highly influenced me in my design discipline. During my study of Architecture, I mainly focused on establishing connections between routine life, people, nature, and the use of color space and material in architecture, and how they can change people's experiences of space. Moreover, I was fully engaged in many exhibitions/competitions with various artists and designers, which led me to develop a wide range of skill set for different design approaches and a keen understanding of how to turn ideas into actual making.

E. Lewis Dales Traveling Fellowships established under his will in 1963 for travel abroad during the summer prior to the student's final year as a candidate for the first professional degree in architecture. A competition for these awards is conducted by the Department of Architecture in January.
